Elsewhere began in Florence, Italy from opposite ends of a bar. Sam and Sara Kazmer — the co-founders of Elsewhere Brewing Co. — started their life together with a series of bold decisions that eventually led them around the world. After they met in Italy, Sam, a metro-Atlanta native and West Point graduate, accepted a new job in Tacoma, Washington with the 2nd Ranger Battalion. Sara, a Chicago native and recent Loyola graduate, decided to move to Tacoma as well to join Sam and start work in the marketing industry. Their love for craft beer began while living in the Pacific Northwest.

Sam started home brewing after a parachuting accident. Sara quit her marketing job and started managing and bartending at a new brewery across the street from their apartment. In 2017, Sam was medically retired from the Army. They decided to roll the dice and try their hands at starting a craft brewery.
